Chelsea are back in Premier League action this weekend

Chelsea have made a steady start to the new Premier League season. They turned to Enzo Maresca as their new manager over the summer to replace Mauricio Pochettino and he has since adapted well to life at Stamford Bridge.

The London outfit are 4th in the table after their 1-1 draw at home to Nottingham Forest last time out before the international break. They have 14 points on the board from their first seven fixtures and have only lost once.

Chelsea’s upcoming opponents Liverpool have also only been beaten once. Arne Slot has done an impressive job at Anfield so far and his team sit top of the tree.

They have 18 points and are one above Manchester City at the summit. They won 1-0 away at Crystal Palace in their last outing with Diogo Jota scoring their winner at Selhurst Park.

Former Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham manager Harry Redknapp has made his prediction for the match on Sunday, via BetVictor: “Liverpool 3-2 Chelsea. What a big game this is for both sides. Liverpool certainly aren’t as spectacular to watch as they were under Jurgen Klopp, but they sit at the top of the table and a win here would really lay down a marker for the rest of the season.

“As for Chelsea, win this and I think they’re in the title race. Enzo Maresca’s made a fantastic start this season, he seems to have found an 11 that he trusts, and he’s got some incredible individual quality at the top end of the pitch. They’ll cause problems to any defence.

“This could be a real thriller. I think Liverpool will get the win though, just!

“One to watch - Mohamed Salah has come back to haunt his old side time and time again and he looks as good as ever this season.”

Redknapp believes there will be goals in this one and has tipped Liverpool to come out on top. However, he has claimed that if Chelsea win, they should be considered title contenders.

Chelsea boss hails supporters

Speaking ahead of the game, Maresca has said: “‘[The relationship with the supporters] is very important. I really like it at home and away but if we can build something important with them at home, I think it will be fantastic for us because we need them during the season, for sure, like we needed them the other day [against Forest]. We needed them for the last push and we were very close. We didn’t win but they were there supporting us.

“For the fans, it is nice to be proud of the players. When you see your team and your players fighting and trying to win the game, it is a good moment for the fans. This is what we ask of the players: ‘Just go outside and give everything because there are fans there that want to be proud of you’, and this is what they are doing now.”

He added: “‘The international window gives you time to reflect. When there are so many games, sometimes you don’t stop to think about it.”
