Liverpool are increasingly confident of signing Chelsea’s Mason Mount with the 24-year-old having hit a wall with contract talks at Stamford Bridge according to Talksport.

Mount will have just one year left on his current deal at Chelsea after this season and his not enjoying the best of campaigns under Graham Potter with just three goals and two assists in 20 Premier League matches.

However he wants to renew his contract and earn in the region of £250,000-a-week-wages, same as right-back Reece James who recently renewed his contract.

Chelsea are said to be willing to offer Mount his wages but not on the five year deal he’s team is proposing as they prefer long-term contracts, similar to the ones Wesley Fofana and Mykhailo Mudryk are on.

Liverpool need a major rebuild of their entire squad but the focus is on the midfield with Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita and Fabinho all not operating at the level they were few seasons ago.

According to a report on Talksport, Liverpool have jumped ahead of other teams and are growing increasingly confident of luring the England star to Anfield next summer.

Liverpool have also been monitoring England and Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham but face competition from Manchester City who are waiting to see if their experienced duo of Ilkay Gundogan and Bernado Silva move on in the summer.

Chelsea know Mount wants to stay at Stamford Bridge but they also know that the player will decide his future in the summer as teams circle for his services.
