Frank Lampard’s honest opinion about Graham Potter comes to light as manager is confirmed

Chelsea have confirmed the of signing Brighton and Hove Albion manager Graham Potter as their new boss after sacking German Thomas Tuchel earlier in the week.

The Albion boss emerged the number one target for the job at Stamford Bridge after Chelsea lost three of their first seven games of the season, including a disappointing loss at Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League.

The 47-year-old manager has come a long way from his time in Sweden where he helped Ostersund from the fourth-tier of Swedish football to Europe.

His exploits in Sweden got him his first job in England with Swansea taking the chance on him to lead their transition after relegation from the Premier League.

From there his progress was visible and Brighton and Hove Albion came calling after just a season in South Wales.

Last season he helped the Seagulls to their best ever finish in the Premier League when they came ninth - and they are currently fourth with 13 points from a possible 18 so far this campaign.

But former Chelsea manager Frank Lampard, who was in charge of the Blues when Potter first took over at Brighton showed respect and predicted his rise when his side visited Stamford Bridge in the Premier back in October 2019.

Lampard, now in charge of Everton, is quoted by SussexLive: “We must respect Brighton hugely because they are playing very well.

“They are playing some really good football, there’s a new manager [Graham Potter], he’s changed their style. They maybe haven’t got the points on the board they deserve.

“Just because we haven’t had a home win, we can’t just expect that it will come because we are Chelsea and they are Brighton, no, we respect them.”

The 47-year-old Potter is expected to sign a five year deal at Chelsea and should be in the team for the game against Fulham on Saturday afternoon.
