The three Liverpool players racing back from injury to play against Chelsea in Carabao Cup final

Liverpool and Chelsea will both be without key players heading into the League Cup final this weekend.

Liverpool assistant manager Pepijn Lijnders says they will have a couple of training sessions to determine if the trio of Dominik Szoboszlai, Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah will be fit for the League Cup final on Sunday.

The Reds are missing a host of key players including their Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson Becker and their Portuguese finisher Diogo Jota. English full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold is also sidelined but the news that Salah, who missed the 4-1 win against Luton Town in midweek could feature has arrested the headlines going into Sunday's showdown at Wembley.

Lijnders, who took the media duties in place of Jurgen Klopp told the press: "Dom, Darwin, and Mo, we have to really see.

"We have two more days. Today's session and tomorrow's session. Last minute we will check if they can be there. It would be great. Curtis, high ankle strain. He will be around the international break."

Jota's injury could be long-term after he suffered ligament damage and Alisson could also miss important league games including the one against Manchester City- but only Erling Haaland has scored more league goals than Salah's 15, so he racing back to play against Chelsea could be a game changer.

Szoboszlai is an unstoppable force and when he plays makes the team better while Nunez is just outright uncomfortable to play against. If these three players are fit, then Chelsea will have a tough game.

Mauricio Pochettino's side however come into this on form though, with two wins and a deserved draw against Manchester City at the Etihad.
