There is a certain level of resignation from the Bundesliga club that their rising striker would not be with them for longer after the kind of season he’s had.

Real Madrid are also said to be monitoring developments having lost Kylian Mbappe to PSG, after a long persuasion period that ended in disappointment for the Spanish side.

But it is Chelsea who have a lot of work to do and ground to cover, following the sanctions and sale of the club by the UK government.

There are also talks to be held with striker Romelu Lukaku, who endured an underwhelming first season back at the club.

The Belgian striker would like to know what his role will be for the coming season, having seen the likes of Kai Havertz and Timo Werner picked ahead of him in pivotal games.

The good news is that new owner Todd Boehly is ready to inject £200 million into the club, which will help stabilise the team and bring in fresh blood for the 2022-23 campaign.

Chelsea finished this season in third place and won the Club World Cup and Super Cup, even though they were left red faced against Liverpool twice at Wembley, losing the Carabao Cup and FA Cup on penalties.
