Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta is expected to leave the club this summer with Atletico Madrid waiting to sign him.

Chelsea’s long-serving captain Cesar Azpilicueta is set to exit the club after agreeing to terminate his contract, allowing him to join Spanish side Atletico Madrid on a free.

Azpilicueta will leave Chelsea as an absolute legend who has been at the club for more than a decade and won everything including the Premier League, the Champions League and even the Club World Cup.

He is considered by many as one of the great servants of Chelsea and that has bought him credit in the bank with the new owners deciding to agree to a contract termination on his terms.

Last season, he came close to joining Barcelona but a last-minute change of heart meant he stayed through the most difficult campaign they have had in the last 25 years.

He signed a two-year deal that would have expired at the end of next summer but the conditions are right for Azpilicueta to go back home as Chelsea look to turn a new leaf.

They are looking to start from scratch after appointing former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino and have signed youngsters like Wesley Fofana and Nicolas Jackson as the foundation of the club.

On the put-going front, they have also let go of players like Edouard Mendy, the Champions League-winning goalkeeper and N’Golo Kante, one of the best players to have ever worn the Chelsea jersey.

Chelsea are also preparing for their first bid for Moises Caicedo who is considered one of the best midfielders in the Premier League at the moment. The Blues are expected to at least bid £80million for his services.
