One Chelsea player is battling an injury as he links up with his international side.

Chelsea have an injury concern heading into the international break, and it seems they are being proactive in a bid to avoid any further setbacks. Like many of the top Premier League clubs, the Blues have plenty of players heading away for international duty this week, both across senior and under-21s level.

As ever, Enzo Maresca and his coaching staff will be sitting nervously, hoping all of their players return to the club still fit and ready to attack another four weeks of club action. We have already seen a number of Premier League payers withdraw from international selection through injury, illness and perhaps even secretly prioritising club football with most international fixtures not particularly important, although it does depend on the continent, with World Cup qualifiers already underway in some parts of the world.

One player who won’t be playing in any sort of qualifiers is Wesley Fofana, who has been called up for Nations League action with France. But the defender has been struggling with a shin injury over recent weeks, according to reports, although he has been playing through it with Chelsea.

According to RMC Sport via SportWitness, the 23-year-old arrived at France’s Clairefontaine base on Monday nursing a shin injury. It’s claimed Chelsea sent a request that Fofana took part in a fitness test on Monday night to check whether he should be playing for his nation over the next week or so.

The results of that test were not published, but it seems they were positive, given it is added that, barring any surprises, Fofana will remain part of the France camp through the fixtures with Israel and Belgium. Chelsea will be hoping that Fofana does not play in both of those games, especially given there is added concern because of his injury history and the problems he has had over the last couple of years.
