Chelsea predicted team vs Liverpool: three changes and first-time formation at Anfield for Enzo Maresca

The Chelsea team news ahead of their game against Liverpool at Anfield this weekend.

Chelsea have a fully fit squad for their game at Anfield, but fate has it that they also have a few players suspended, leading to some changes in the squad as Enzo Maresca seeks a statement win after being named Manager of the Month for September. The Chelsea boss has reignited the club’s ambitions, bringing back a sense that Chelsea can be competitive again. However, this game will be an acid test for their form, as there’s a sense that they haven't yet faced a truly tough opponent.

One of the biggest storylines will be whether captain Reece James gets some minutes. He will be eager to return after enduring a difficult few months due to a hamstring injury that kept him out. With a lot more than just three points at stake, here is the starting eleven we anticipate the Chelsea boss will select:

Goalkeeper and Defenders

Robert Sanchez is the club’s first-choice goalkeeper and is expected to start. The defence will see changes, with Tosin Aderabioyo making his first league start in place of the suspended Wesley Fofana. Renato Veiga is set to come in for Marc Cucurella, who is also suspended due to yellow card accumulation. Malo Gusto is likely to keep his place despite James's return, alongside the impressive Levi Colwill.

Midfielders

This is where things get particularly interesting, as Maresca has experimented with various combinations to create overloads in midfield. Moises Caicedo will anchor the midfield, partnered with World Cup winner Enzo Fernández, while Cole Palmer is expected to operate further forward. Renato Veiga’s versatility may see him make a significant impact, and a potential shift to a three-at-the-back formation could allow Gusto more attacking freedom.

Forwards

This is where the magic can happen, as Chelsea have a number of talented forwards who can change the game. Nicolas Jackson has been leading the line, and although Christopher Nkunku has been brilliant, Noni Madueke is likely to retain his spot on the right wing ahead of Pedro Neto. Jadon Sancho could start on the left, keeping Joao Felix on the bench.

Predicted Chelsea Team:

Sanchez; Gusto, Colwill, Veiga, Aderabioyo; Caicedo, Fernández, Palmer; Jackson, Sancho, Madueke.
