Manchester City beat Premier League rivals Chelsea 2-0 to progress to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup. Riyah Mahrez scored a brilliant free kick to put City ahead and was again involved in the second goal as it was his shot which Edouard Mendy parried away into the path of Julián Álvarez who had the simple task of just tapping in the second goal.
Prior to that Chelsea had given a good account of themselves and Hakim Ziyech, starting a game fort the first time in months looked dangerous in transition.
