Manchester City beat Premier League rivals Chelsea 2-0 to progress to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup. Riyah Mahrez scored a brilliant free kick to put City ahead and was again involved in the second goal as it was his shot which Edouard Mendy parried away into the path of Julián Álvarez who had the simple task of just tapping in the second goal.
Prior to that Chelsea had given a good account of themselves and Hakim Ziyech, starting a game fort the first time in months looked dangerous in transition. Christian Pulisic who will be in Qatar with the U.S created the most chances for Chelsea on a night that both teams really showed they wanted to win it.
Raheem Sterling came on midway through the second half to make his first appearance against City since leaving them in the summer. However, he was unable to help instigate a fightback as the home side extended their winning run at Etihad Stadium to 16 games in all competitions.
Graham Potter who went nine games unbeaten at the start of his Chelsea reign has now lost the last three and will take on an in-form Newcastle United this weekend in the Premier League with risk of losing four games on the spin. Here is how we rated all the Chelsea players out there today.
