Chelsea are now open to selling defender Marc Cucurella after confirming the signing of Moises Caicedo from Brighton and Hove Albion for £115m.

Chelsea had been in touch with Brighton for the last three months with Liverpool initially looking to have hijacked the deal after they went behind the player to agree a deal with Brighton for his signing.

The 21-year-old however only wanted Chelsea and respectfully told Liverpool that he wanted to go to the west London club. Marc Cucurella has insisted he is determined to fight for his spot in the team despite constant links away from the club this summer.

The Spain defender told the club’s website last month ahead of their tour of the United States: “I want to stay at Chelsea. I am very happy here, it was not an easy season. When you arrive at a big club you feel a lot of pressure and when the results don’t arrive you feel it even more. This is part of life, and we learn to improve.

“One of the most important things in players is confidence. Confidence is one of the most important things and we have a new season and a new coach.”

Newcastle United are in the market for a left back and have shown interest in Cucurella as well as Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney. Chelsea have spent almost one billion in the transfer window but are now hoping to sell players Romelu Lukaku, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Hakim Ziyech as well as the much sought-after Cucurella to balance the books and the team.
