The Blues produced a brilliant display in Madrid but ultimately came short of progressing after Karim Benzema’s late header ensured it was the 13-time Champions League record holders who progressed to the final four of the competition.

The good news from the defeat in Madrid is that the players left everything on the pitch and unlike their potential rivals in the finals, Manchester City or Liverpool, none of the Chelsea players came out of that game with an injury.

Chelsea have already been to Wembely this season and were unfortunate to lose a marathon penalty shoot-out to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final, they will be hoping to see off the challenge of Crystal Palace who have been sensational under manager Patrick Vieira.

So with everything hanging in the balance- here are three Chelsea players who are set to be ruled out due to injury or sickness.

Callum Hudson-Odoi

Been a frustrating season for Callum who at some point looked like he was ready to take his game to the next level earlier on this season under Thomas Tuchel.

Reports are that his problem is a stubborn achilles issue and that has restricted him to only one game since early February. Been unlucky but you get the feeling that he is running out of time to prove his real worth at the club.

Potential return date: Not available at the moment and he is certainly out of the game at Wembley.

Ben Chillwell

Has been ruled out for the rest of the season due to a knee injury he picked up against Juventus back in November

Has had surgery and has been seen enjoying his time off, not that there is much he can at do at the moment given the current situation.

His absence has weakened the Chelsea wing-back system and there is a feeling Blues fans can not wait to see him back running up the lane.

Potential return date: Mid next season but very much on track for an earlier than expected return

Ross Barkey

Barkley has had a really tough season because when he has been fit he’s barely got into the team and missed the trip to Madrid due to illness.

Not sure he will be fully ready for Wembley due to the quick turn around even though his manager mentioned he was feeling ok.

He is certainly one that would be looking for more playing time in the summer elsewhere.

Expected return: Crystal Palace not sure if he will make the team

Romelu Lukaku

The Chelsea record signing missed the trip to Madrid but has been declared fit for the FA Cup semi-final.

Has been decent in the competition and will be looking to book his side a place at the final.
