Chelsea boss drops early Blackburn team news and confirms 23y/o will start his first League Cup game

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed Reece James is now ready to start his first League Cup game of the season when they take on Blackburn Rover tomorrow evening.

James the captain has come off the bench in the last two games but he will now get to start his first game since the Premier League opening game against Liverpool.

The defender has been battling hamstring injuries and the boss who admits there is a plan to ensure he continues to perform without returning to the treatment table is looking forward to having him or the game.

He told reporters ahead of the Championship side: “I can confirm he is going to start [vs Blackburn]. I want to confirm only one player but it is good for the team, it is good for him to start from the beginning of the game.”

The results in the league have been disappointing and Pochettino himself admitted that they will have to get better even though he hinted the injuries havent helped speed up the situation.

He added: “When you try to create something new and creating a project we are building, you have to work hard.”

“The circumstances are not helping us to go faster than we want. It’s up and down. It’s normal.”

Mauricio Pochettino is credited with being the man who is able to get the best out of a young squad but the first few weeks have been tough.

In the Premier League, Chelsea have not won a league game when Reece James has started in a year but they will hope that his start agaianst Blackburn will be the springboard that will lead to a change in fortune this season.
