A couple of weeks ago when it became apparent that Chelsea were keen on the winger, Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson admitted they faced a fight to keep hold of their star winger despite he currently nursing an injury.

He 71-year-old manager the press: “We have a fight on our hands to make sure he stays with us.

“We had two outstanding wingers who were almost the best in the league – Michael Olise on the right side and Wilf on the left. We don’t have Wilf anymore. Clubs are circling around Olise.

Last season Olise backed 11 assists, the most by any player out of the top six of the Premier League and he is likely to be at a big club regardless of Chelsea’s interest in the coming seasons having excelled massively since he arrived in south London in 2021.

Olise can still play for the England national team despite representing France under-21, he could also still play for Algeria but he is clearly leaning toward playing for France.

Chelsea have secured the signing of the outstanding Moise Caicedo already and he is expected to make his debut away at West Ham this weekend with Mauricio Pochettino looking to build on the positive start against Liverpool in their Premier League opener.
