English defender Ben Chilwell has reminded everyone why he is regarded as one of the best left-wingers in the Premier League.

Chelsea have splashed the cash on Marc Cucurella from Brighton for two reasons.

For one, they believe Chilwell will take time to get used to playing every three days straight after his knee injury.

The second reason for bringing in Cucurella is that he can play in the back three given his technical ability and speed on the ball.

Chilwell in the last two weeks has looked really good and his minutes against West Ham were earned at the back of an impressive training period.

For the system that Thomas Tuchel loves to deploy, the wing-backs have to function as defenders without the ball and attackers with the ball.

Reece James does that so well when he plays and Chilwell did that against West Ham.

A goal to swing momentum and an assist that involved him moving the back line of a deep block to set up Kai Havertz for the winner.

Chelsea need tactical flexibility and even though Wesley Fofana and Kalidou Koulibaly have come in, the fact Cucurella can slot in at the back to give his teammates rest and provide a unique tactical shift is refreshing.

Thomas Tuchel said they wanted to reset the season after the win against West Ham and it will be interesting to see how they play against Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League this weekend.

Chelsea have spent £278.4 million in the just ended summer transfer window and there will be pressure on the manager if he can’t get the best out of the current squad he’s assembled.
