The Brazil number 9 has endured a difficult time in north London where he scored just one league goal last season and has since struggled to fill the boots left by Harry Kane’s departure to Bayern Munich.

Ansu Fati has been offered to a number of Premier League clubs ahead of Transfer Deadline Day including Chelsea but it is Spurs who are in the market for another option in attack.

Spurs are looking to build from scratch having failed to find their identity since Mauricio Pochettino left in 2019 and Postecoglou who was visibly disappointed that his team failed to progress in the Carabao club admitted he wanted Richarlison to improve despite his goal.

He said: “I get why other people look at that and I understand that but for me it’s about contributing to our football, how we play.

“I thought we gave away the ball a bit too much tonight, not just him but a few players in that boat. It’s an important part of our game and that’s the stuff I want Richy to improve on.

“I think the goals will come. Our strikers, our attacking players will get opportunities to score. Our all-round games is much more important at this stage.”

The Lilywhites will hope that they put the Fulham disappointment away when they travel to Burnley for their Premier League game this weekend.
