Everything Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel said about Reece James’ latest injury & Chilwell update

Reece James will likely miss tomorrow’s match against Norwich, and is set for more time on the treatment table.

Chelsea star Reece James has suffered another injury which manager Thomas Tuchel said was “certainly a setback”.

The England international will likely miss tomorrow’s match against Norwich, and could be out for ever longer.

The powerful full back scored and assisted at Burnley, in his first start since December, but the manager revealed he felt some discomfort in his knee during the match.

Tuchel explained it was not the same leg that he previously injured, with a hamstring issue keeping him out for several months.

Chelsea have looked really good in the last few games, having won three games on the bounce, but the news of the James’ injury will have rattled the squad.

Tuchel said everyone trained today at Cobham, except James and Ben Chilwell.

What did Thomas Tuchel say about Reece James’ injury?

The Champions League-winning manager said: “He felt something during the game against Burnley and it got worse and today he has further examinations.

“We know he is a key part of what we do and he has shown it, but he has muscular problems and for now that is all I know.

“Certainly a setback for us but we have to wait and see what the examinations say and we will take it from there.”

Ben Chilwell update

There was however some better news concerning fellow full-back Ben Chilwell, who made his first return to grass since his ACL operation.

He added: “I think the one minute he was out on the grass they took a photo.

“The weather made it possible he could do the exercise outside.

“They made him smell the grass and get a bit excited, but nothing close to football or team training.”

Norwich v Chelsea

The Blues will hope to continue their fine form at Carrow Road and end the season on the high, after what has been a disappointing campaign in the league.

They are still in the round of sixteen in the Champions League and the quarter final stage of the FA Cup, which Thomas Tuchel will look to mount a strong challenge on.

The Blues have also won the European Super Cup and the Club World Cup so any other trophy this season will make it a very attractive one, even if they just missed out on a chance to put up a very strong challenge for the Premier League title.
