Charlton Athletic couldn't hold on to a point against title-challenging Peterborough United at The Valley on Saturday as the Posh increased the pressure on Portsmouth.

John Mousinho's side suffered a shock defeat at Fratton Park to Leyton Orient as the Os leapt up the table and made a push for the play-offs look ever more possible.

Cheltenham Town chairman addresses Charlton interest

Charlton Athletic will have to overcome a stubborn Cheltenham Town to sign striker Will Goodwin during the January transfer window. The Robins' chairman David Bloxham has labelled the Addick's interest as 'daft' as the club looked to sign a talisman.

The ongoing Jonson Clarke-Harris contract saga doesn't look any closer to resolution but 21-year-old Goodwin is another option that has been named. The striker has six goals in 16 League One appearances this term for a struggling Cheltenham Town, which he plundered in a run of seven matches between October and November.

Oxford United have also registered interest in the star, who cost Cheltenham £20,000 from Stoke City last January. His contract runs until the end of next season.

Speaking of interest, Bloxham said: "We are not looking to sell Will. We are going to be guided by the manager in terms of what he wants to do. The ultimate decision will be made by the board, but we'll be strongly influenced by the recommendation of the manager. Apart from the amount that might or might not be on offer, if something were to happen we'd need to be sure we can cover any departure because we cannot go into February with one less player."

Bloxham also described an early Charlton bid as 'daft' but admitted that the fee had since been upped.

Derby boss negotiates Arsenal coup

Derby County have successfully negotiated an extension to Arsenal star Tyreece John-Jules' loan spell at Pride Park after an impressive start to the League One season.

The 22-year-old's loan expired after the side beat Burton Albion on Monday night but supporters need not worry about losing the forward as they push for automatic promotion. The Derby Telegraph reports that manager Paul Warne had been in conversation with Arsenal himself to help keep John-Jules at the club until the end of the season.

Praising the player, Warne said: "I just think he has got so much going on in his head and that's because he can do so many things that sometimes he can just simplify it a bit. I've seen him do so many things in training where he does this finish that he bounces into the ground that keepers can't save. It's a joke.

"He has so much ability and he can do what he likes in the penalty box. It's just around the rest of the pitch where he has to be safe, secure and reliable. It feels like he is getting better and better, the more minutes he has. We are still being cautious and I didn't want to take him off with a few minutes to go but I saw him stretch his calves. I can't have him missing for six weeks so he had to come off."
