Nathan Jones will look to return to winning ways this weekend after a disappointing defeat to Reading last time out for Charlton Athletic.

Charlton Athletic will take on Rotherham United in League One action this weekend after the fixture was given the green light to go ahead during the international break.

Both clubs will have their sights set on vying for promotion this term. The Addicks faced defeat against Reading last time out but had previously won their opening three fixtures while the Millers picked up a first league victory of the campaign in dramatic style against Huddersfield Town last weekend.

Charlton Athletic team news

Charlton Athletic are set to be without full-back Josh Edwards once again this weekend. The summer signing from Dunfermline Athletic sustained ligament damage in a nasty tackle against Leyton Orient last month.

The 24-year-old is not a long term lay-off, with Nathan Jones deeming the injury not significant enough to recruit another player before the transfer deadline, and is expected to miss weeks of football rather than months.

Speaking about that injury, Jones previously said: “It wasn’t as bad as it could’ve been. I’m not sure there was maliciousness in the tackle but it was a poor challenge. It was a bad one and those are the challenges that need to be stamped out really – they are the ones which can cause serious injury.

“If it had been more serious than we would have [looked to strengthen]. Because we want to play a certain way and to have certain attributes.

“The reason we signed Josh is to have real competition for Thierry, he did really well for us last year. People forget that Thierry is only 19-20 years of age. He’s been around for ages. But he still has massive, massive development left.

“Josh is slightly older and slightly more advanced in certain things. We have great competition and it is what we wanted to create in every position.”

Addicks midfielder Luke Berry was withdrawn at half time in the defeat to Reading last weekend and Jones explained after the match that was due to a lack of energy caused by illness. Tennai Watson's absence in Berkshire was put down to illness as well.

Rotherham United team news

Rotherham United duo Sean Raggett and Joe Rafferty have been sidelined in recent weeks with injury. The former Portsmouth duo were expected to be out for 10 to 12 days after picking up issues in the middle of August.

Raggett and Rafferty didn't feature in Rotherham's win over Huddersfield Town last weekend but that timeframe would suggest that both are in contention for a return against Charlton Athletic.

Cohen Bramall was absent from Steve Evans' squad for the first time this season last weekend but the Millers' boss confirmed that was just down to selection and not injury.
