Charlton Athletic hand Oxford United transfer blow as Wycombe Wanderers brace for Championship raid

It's been a dramatic week for Charlton Athletic, after a feisty 2-1 win over Bolton Wanderers prompted the sacking of Ian Evatt at the Toughsheet Community Stadium.
The Addicks came from behind to claim that scalp with goals from Lloyd Jones and Karoy Anderson. Nathan Jones' side are in good form and go into this weekend's visit of Shrewsbury Town buoyed by recent results.

Charlton Athletic confident of new Lloyd Jones contract
Charlton Athletic manager Nathan Jones remains 'very confident' that the club will agree a contract extension with Lloyd Jones this month to put an end to transfer rumours of an exit from The Valley.
Wycombe Wanderers and Oxford United have been linked with interest in the centre-back, who is enjoying an impressive season with the Addicks. Jones has made 21 appearances across all competitions this term and was on the scoresheet in the 2-1 win over Bolton Wanderers this week.
The former Cambridge United and Northampton Town man's deal at Charlton Athletic is set to expire this summer. That would allow Jones to leave as a free agent and has piqued the interest of League One rivals, should the Addicks be pressed into cashing in now rather than not making any money at the end of the season.

I like working with Lloyd and I’m sure Lloyd enjoys working with me from what I hear, that’s not me being presumptuous in any way.
“We have got a good relationship, so I don’t think that is anything to do with it. Obviously he is in good form, so that is the sticking point at the minute. But I’m very confident we will get to a solution soon because he is important to us.
“The thing we have to remember is he is playing his best football now. I took him to Luton and I wouldn’t say he had a tough time, but it wasn’t as fruitful as he would’ve liked because he was behind a couple more experienced and very good centre-halves in Matty Pearson and Sonny Bradley.
“So he had to be patient. Now he is here and he made that position his own. He has turned into a leader. He has added goals and maturity that is showing. I’m really enjoying the performances and the leadership qualities he is putting in because we always knew that was in Lloyd Jones.”

Hide AdWycombe Wanderers sent second Luton Town bid
Wycombe Wanderers are facing another bid from Championship outfit Luton Town as Matt Bloomfield continues to try and bring Richard Kone with him to Kenilworth Road.
The Chairboys had already rejected a bit from Luton Town for the 21-year-old but transfer specialist Pete O'Rourke has claimed that another offer has been sent to Adams Park. Taking to social media platform X, the journalist wrote: "Understand Luton have made a new improved bid for Wycombe striker Richard Kone after seeing their first offer rejected."
Kone has bagged 14 League One goals this season as Wycombe Wanderers compete for promotion to the Championship. The Ivorian joined the outfit in January 2024 and signed a contract extension in November with his current deal not set to expire until 2026.
