'Deal Done': Charlton Athletic confirm signing of 'immense' ex Everton and Wolves star

Nathan Jones will have the experienced former Premier League defender to work with as Charlton Athletic look to cement their place in the Championship.

Charlton Athletic have responded to a 4-0 battering at the hands of London rivals Millwall last weekend by confirming the signing of experienced Premier League defender Conor Coady.

Nathan Jones’ side have only kept one clean sheet in their last eight outings and the Welshman was left fuming by his side’s work rate at The Den last time out. The Addicks now find themselves 19th in the Championship and just three points above the relegation zone.

Charlton Athletic have wasted no time in adding a big presence to the squad by swooping to bring in Coady on a loan move from Wrexham until the end of the season. Reports of interest circulated earlier this week and the club has now confirmed the transfer.

Charlton Athletic confirm Conor Coady loan signing

Coady signed a two year deal at Wrexham last summer but has only played six times since making that move from Leicester City. He is expected to be handed a more regular role at The Valley.

The centre-back will bring plenty of experience with 198 Premier League appearances to his name, as well as 184 outings in the Championship. Coady spent eight years at Wolves before a loan move to Everton over the 2022/23 campaign.

Nathan Jones hails ‘immense experience’ of ex Wolves man

On confirming the loan move on Thursday, Charlton Athletic boss Jones said: "We're delighted to add Conor. He is a player of immense experience and someone who has played at the highest level and played for his country. His leadership and his qualities are something we feel we needed at this time. At this point, we really felt we could utilise his leadership going into the last 18 games."

As well as his Premier League experience, Coady has tasted plenty of success in the Championship. The defender won the division with Wolves in 2018 and once again at Leicester City in 2024. The player becomes Charlton Athletic’s sixth signing of the window after Harry Clarke, Lyndon Dykes, Luke Chambers, Tiernan Brooks and Jayden Fevrier.

Speaking to the club, Coady said: "I'm absolutely over the moon. I'm super excited to play in front of the supporters and get going. When I got the opportunity to come to this football club, it filled me with excitement. You want to be part of football clubs like this it's a huge club and I can’t wait for the first game."
