Rangers reportedly lead the race to sign Brentford and Watford-linked Jerry Yates from Blackpool. The striker appears to be a man in-demand ahead of the January transfer window.

According to reporter Alan Nixon on his Patreon, Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side are the frontrunners for his signature at the moment. He has been in decent form so far this season and has chipped in with nine league goals.

The Sun claimed last month that Brentford and Watford are keeping tabs on his situation. Bournemouth and West Brom were also credited with an interest.

Yates, 26, has been on the books at Bloomfield Road since 2020 and helped Blackpool gain promotion from League One during his first year at the club by firing an impressive 23 goals in all competitions. He then chipped in with eight in the last campaign and has already beaten that this term which shows his progression.

The Doncaster-born man rose up through the youth ranks at Rotherham United and went on to score five times in 52 matches for the Millers as a youngster. He also had loan spells away from the Yorkshire outfit at Harrogate Railway Athletic, Harrogate Town, Carlisle United and Swindon Town to gain experience.

His future is up in the air this winter amid transfer speculation, with Rangers now said to be in the driving seat. The Glasgow side are 2nd in the Scottish Premiership behind rivals Celtic.
