The highly-rated midfielder is a massive doubt for his country’s first game of the UEFA Nations League, despite joining the team’s training camp in Elsinore last week.

The 28-year-old’s likely absence is a major blow to the Danish team who are looking to build momentum and prepare for the World Cup later this year.

Denmark are scheduled to take on France, Austria (twice) and Croatia in the Nations League and coach Kasper Hjulmand admits he is missing his dependable midfielder, though they will give him the chance to recover.

Hjulmand told the Danish press on Monday morning: “We have a little problem with Christian Nørgaard.

“We will look at him again and give him the next few days to try and recover.

“He missed the last game of the season for Brentford, and he is not training today either, so we will look at him in the next few days”

The good news though for the Danish team is that Christian Eriksen is looking good and bossing games again.

Eriksen has recovered from a cardiac arrest and proven his clean bill of health in the Premier League this season.

The former Tottenham man proved his class by arriving at west London at a time Brentford were on a run of eight games without a win, and helped the Bees to a comfortable 13th-placed finish with no threats of relegation.

They will hope that his brilliance is the shining light that will see them perform in the Nations League and the World Cup in Qatar.
