Brentford handed huge injury blow ahead of Spurs and West Ham with 'real threat' bagsman to miss out

Brentford are set to be without talisman Yoane Wissa for upcoming Premier League fixtures against Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham and beyond after the 28-year-old picked up a serious injury against Manchester City over the weekend.

The Bees' star opened the scoring at the Etihad Stadium after just 22 seconds but the London outfit eventually fell to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of the Champions with the prolific Erling Haaland bagging a brace. Wissa already has three Premier League goals to his name this season and has impressed in filling the boots of Ivan Toney.

In that match, Wissa was forced off before half-time following a challenge by Mateo Kovacic, which Brentford manager Thomas Frank labelled as 'reckless' after full time. Frank has now provided an update on Wissa's condition, and it's bad news.

In a quote shared by Brentford on social media platform X, Frank said: "Wissa is not good news. It looks like an injury that will be a couple of months. It’s very frustrating. It will leave a hole but I will find a solution and other players will step up"

Given his prolific start to the season, that's a significant blow for Brentford. Wissa will certainly miss out of upcoming top flight meetings with Spurs and the Hammers with clashes against Wolves, Manchester United, Ipswich Town, Fulham and Bournemouth all in the diary before the middle of September.

Wissa could perhaps return after the international break in November, according to Frank's timeline. Brentford travel to Everton on November 23. The Bees are next in action in the Carabao Cup against Leyton Orient on Tuesday.

Praising Wissa and teammate Bryan Mbeumo last month, pundit Danny Murphy told Match of the Day 2: "If you took away the colour of the strip, at times you could mistake them for City or Arsenal.

"This is not easy to do. To play out from the back with the quality they have and then get end product - it is with penetration and positivity. They're brave to get out and when they get out they have width and pace with Wissa and Mbeumo. Two players playing with confidence with a real threat.

"This is a really positive Brentford side. I was really impressed, they had variation. Sometimes Thomas Frank doesn't get the plaudits he deserves because his team is not a one trick pony. I don't think they will have any problems this season."
