Arsenal’s former summer transfer target Benjamin Sesko has opened up on the speculation that surrounded a potential move to the Emirates this summer.
Mikel Arteta has been on the lookout to strengthen his forward line this summer and, having scored 18 goals and registered two assists in 42 games for Leipzig last season, Sesko was a prime candidate. While other figure such as Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, Brentford’s Ivan Toney and Bologna’s Joshua Zirkzee were also said to be under the Gunners’ radar, it was imagined that the Gunners would be sending over a bid to RB Leipzig in the hope of landing Sesko’s signature.

Hide AdAC Milan were also linked with a move for the rising Slovenian star but, before RB Leipzig received any big-money offers, the 21-year-old signed a new contract with the Bundesliga side that should see him remain at the Red Bull Arena until 2029.
Such a decision effectively signalled the end of any transfer speculation this summer with the interested parties - Arsenal in particular - inadvertently told that the striker would not be moving this summer. It is also highly likely that Leipzig will have included a large release clause in Sesko’s updated contract with the club having a history of selling various players via this strategy down the years.
However, speaking out on the transfer news that surrounded the 21-year-old, Sesko has not ruled out a potential move to the Premier League in the future and admits that it would be the aim of ‘every player’ he knows.
As reported by Sport Witness, the European Championship star said: “There was a lot of talk and there was also movement. But in the end we found a good solution. It will do me good to continue to mature in Leipzig. It would not have been smart to leave after just one year. On the other hand, it’s also nice to see that your performances get you talked about. Because it shows you’re on the right path.”
When he was asked more specifically about Arsenal, Sesko confessed: “Every player I know watches Premier League games. In the end, we have to see when I’m ready for something.”
