Mikel Arteta has vowed to fight until the end after kick-starting Arsenal’s title bid with a 2-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The scoreline suggests a comfortable evening for the Gunners but it was anything but as they toiled hard at Molineux. Goals in stoppage time of both halves from Leandro Trossard and Martin Odegaard edged out Wolves to propel Arsenal into first place.

Manchester City were distracted by FA Cup action this weekend, with Liverpool not facing Fulham until later today. Barring a 10-goal swing at Craven Cottage, the Gunners can expect to be top of the Premier League when they take on Chelsea in midweek.

Bouncing back from consecutive defeats to Aston Villa and Bayern Munich was pivotal for Arsenal to regain any hope of clinching silverware this season. Speaking post-match, Gunners boss Arteta praised his side’s “resilience” while insisting his team have not given up on their Premier League dream.

“I'm really happy,” he told Sky Sports. “Obviously, the game tests you. If you want to be at the top and fight for big things, you have to show that resilience.

“The best way to talk is on the pitch. We totally deserved to win. We had to make ourselves big and have an impact on the team - this is what we discussed.

“At the moment we are fighting for the league again for two consecutive seasons. We had our first experience in the Champions League for those boys. We have come quite far. Not as far as we want, that's for sure. We still want to improve.”
