A potential transfer update has emerged after it was revealed Arsenal Sporting Director Edu Gaspar's son was spotted out for dinner with the Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz.

Luiz, 25, has been a firm target of the Gunners and has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates for some time. The links also include a failed deadline-swoop for the Brazilian star back in the summer of 2022.

Two years on, the Aston Villa star remains as firm a target as ever and Mikel Arteta's side appear just as eager to secure his services following an exceptionally impressive season with Villa Park. The football transfer Guru, Fabrizio Romano, also added fuel to the fire by claiming the Emirates chiefs view Luiz as "one of the most interesting midfielders" in the world right now.

Rezino took to Instagram to post a picture of a group, including both Edu Gaspar's son Watford player Luigi Gaspar and Luiz, at dinner. The diners were also joined by Tottenham defender Emerson Royal with Edu's son reposting the photo on his own Instagram page.

While, of course, it is highly likely that Luigi Gaspar is close friends with Luiz and Royal, the suggestion of Luiz's close ties with Arsenal stands strong as the 25-year-old continues to be a close point of interest for the North London side.

Luiz signed a new long-term contract with the Villans back in October 2022, which could make any potential move away from Villa Park exceptionally tricky. He has proved to be a key figure in Unai Emery's success with Aston Villa and the club's chiefs placed a £110 million price tag on their star player back in January.

After starting his career with Vasco da Gama, Luiz moved to Manchester City but was immediately sent on loan to Girona when the UK Home office denied him a work permit. He then moved to the Premier League in 2019 and has played over 160 Premier League games for the Villans and has made 11 international appearances for Brazil.

On May 2023, Luiz was voted both the Supporter's Player of the Season and the Player's Player of the Season at Aston Villa's end of season awards.
