Erling Haaland issued a battle cry to Arsenal and Liverpool after ruthlessly putting Luton Town to the sword last night.

The Norwegian goal machine bagged five as Manchester City coasted to a 6-2 rout over the Hatters in the FA Cup. By his usual standards, Haaland was suffering a lean spell in front of goal before the Luton clash.

Just three goals in his previous nine games across all competitions was uncharacteristic of a player who has tormented English football since arriving 18 months ago. But a brutal five-goal haul saw the 23-year-old back to his devastating best - booking City their spot in the quarter-finals.

Pep Guardiola’s men provide the sternest test to Arsenal - and Liverpool - on their quest to clinch the Premier League. City are aiming for their fourth consecutive title, enjoying an era of dominance since the Spaniard’s arrival.

Few expected Arsenal to go again in 2023-24 having pushed the champions close last season. As it stands, just two points separate the top three - with the Gunners in third - but Haaland has warned both title rivals that City are nearing top form and that he is getting back to 100 per cent after an injury lay-off.

“I am getting back to my best,” he said post-match. “Finally I am feeling good. It’s an amazing feeling. It’s coming, we’re coming. Exciting times ahead. We are ready to attack.

“We made a plan here and everyone stuck to it perfectly. Kevin De Bruyne is massive. He is doing what he is best at. It’s a pleasure playing with him. We know what we both want from each other and it clicks well. He is a smart player.”

City did not come out of the FA Cup clash unscathed, however, as Jack Grealish was forced off with a suspected groin injury and later consoled on the bench by his teammates - suggested he may be facing another lay-off.

City boss Pep Guardiola said: "I didn't speak to the doctor but I think it is the groin, maybe quite similar. He felt really really good but unfortunately, he got injured. It's been a tough season for him, he has to recover well."
