That is easier said than done, though, and Arsenal will need to raise some money if they want to be bold in the summer market.
Fortunately for the Gunners, Arteta appears to have a plan for that, with The Sun reporting that Arsenal could offload as many as nine players this summer.
Here we run you through the players likely to leave, according to the report, and each player’s circumstances.
Leno was number one during Arteta’s early days, but he was ousted by Aaron Ramsdale this season.
Arsenal are not likely to want a well-paid number two, given Ramsdale’s form, and Leno could be sold at a cut-price fee this summer, out of contract in 2023.
6. Ainsley Maitland-Niles
Maitland-Niles joined AS Roma in January, working under Jose Mourinho and making just eight Serie A appearances.
It looks unlikely Roma will move to sign the midfielder permanently, but the 24-year-old is another who is out of contract in 2023, and he could well be sold on the cheap ahead of next season.
7. Pablo Mari
Another player who left on loan during January was defender Mari, who linked up with Udinese in Serie A.
He featured pretty regularly, making 15 league appearances, but regular football is not likely to be offered to him at the Emirates Stadium next season.
The 28-year-old still has two years remaining on his current deal, but he is one of the players who is likely to be sold if an offer comes in.
8. Alexandre Lacazette
Lacazette looks set to leave Arsenal after five years at the club.
The Frenchman is out of contract this summer and no new deal has been agreed as we head towards the final month of his deal.
Arteta has said the club are ‘moving on’ after unsuccessful talks.
