Roy Keane names player that Arsenal must sign if they are to become Premier League champions

Arsenal fans have been given plenty of reasons to feel optimistic in recent weeks and they are one of just two unbeaten teams in the Premier League along with city-rivals Tottenham with both boasting a record of six wins and two draws in the league.

The Gunners most recent result was a hugely-satisfying 1-0 win over defending champions Manchester City with Gabriel Martinelli grabbing the winner. The North London giants have invested heavily this season in new recruits to try and bridge the gap between themselves and the league winners.

But one key area needs to be improved if they are to go one step better than last season, according to seven-time Premier League winner Roy Keane.

The former Republic of Ireland international appeared on an episode of the Stick to Football podcast, where he was joined by Arsenal icon Ian Wright.

Wright described Ivan Toney as the “focal point” that could take Arsenal to the next level and described him as the “missing piece of the puzzle.” He also emphasised the need to improve on the tally of Gabriel Jesus, Eddie Nketiah and Kai Havertz who scored a combined total of 22 goals between them last year.

Keane echoed Wright’s view point and explained: "Arsenal can win the league, but they would need that striker. It’s great when you’re watching a team that can play. That is good in possession, but also physically strong.

"We’ve seen City over the last few years, they’ve got bigger – obviously set pieces are huge. We’ve seen lads this season come off the bench for Arsenal, they are big, strong, physical players who can get you over the line in tight games."

Ivan Toney, who returned to Brentford’s team in January after his suspension has previously praised Arsenal’s style of play and claims they are a team he admires. The striker, who scored 20 league goals last term, told Diary of a CEO host Stephen Bartlett: “Everyone want to play at the top of the tree.

"The manager knows that I want to play at the highest level possible and whenever that time comes, so be it. My time at Brentford has been probably the best of my career. The next club I go to will be the right club."
