Former Tottenham Hotspur striker and Match of the Day host Gary Lineker has recently been full of praise for Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi in the wake of his strong performance from the bench for England on Tuesday evening.

Lineker said that Guehi looked ‘impressive’ and ‘authoritative’ in his glowing review of the former Chelsea academy graduate. Guehi was brought on in the 63rd minute, taking the place of John Stones.

What did Gary Linker have to say about Marc Guehi?

Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, Lineker said: “You look at the back for England and central defence, but John Stones is an exceptional footballer, Harry Maguire has never let his country down and I thought Marc Guehi when he came on was really impressive and authoritative.

“You are always going to have a segment in your side that is not as strong as the rest of it but the important thing is that England play to their strengths as they did this evening.”

Should Arsenal sign Marc Guehi?

Arsenal already have some quality centre-backs within their ranks, such as William Saliba, Gabriel, Jurrien Timber, Ben White and Jakub Kiwior. Despite this, several of these often struggle with injuries - especially Saliba - and others, like Kiwior, aren’t quite up to the standard that Arsenal would them to be at.

As such, bringing Guehi to the club could prove to be an excellent signing - not only does he have ample experience of playing in the Premier League, he has also proven himself as a very capable defender.

He isn’t the tallest of centre-backs, standing at just 5ft 10, but his adroit positioning and brilliant ball-playing capabilities make up for his relative diminutiveness. He has blocked nine shots and has made 35 clearances so far this season [via FBref]. If the Gunners are keen to bolster their options in central defence, they could do far worse than Guehi - if they can afford him.

Guehi has also been linked with Manchester United and appears to be a man who will be in demand in the coming transfer windows.
