£20m Arsenal man ready to push for January move after £42m summer signing's arrival
Arsenal defender Jakub Kiwior could be moving away in January after struggling for game time under Mikel Arteta.
Arsenal and Poland defender Jakub Kiwior could reportedly be looking to push for a move away from the Emirates in January, due to a lack of playing opportunity under Mikel Arteta following the signing of Riccardo Calafiori in the summer.
Kiwior has made just four Premier League appearances so far this season, but is yet to start this season and hasn’t been able to break into the Arsenal team since joining in January 2023. The Polish international joined for a fee of £20m from Serie A side Spezia, but reports are now suggesting that he could move back to Italy as several Serie A clubs are keen on signing Kiwior in January.
According to Football Insider, the defender is ready to push for a move away in the January transfer window, with several Serie A clubs said to be preparing bids for the defender who can play both at left-back and centre-back.
Juventus, AC Milan and Inter have all been linked to Kiwior, alongside Spanish La Liga teams Villarreal and Sevilla. This season, Kiwior’s only two starts have come against Bolton Wanderers and Preston North End in the Carabao Cup.
His last Premier League appearance came in Arsenal’s 2-2 draw against Liverpool at the Emirates in late October, when he came on as a substitute after 54 minutes for centre-back Gabriel who had been dealing with an injury during the match.
Kiwior’s lack of chances made worse by £42m summer signing
The Poland international played as a centre-back for Spezia in the Serie A before moving to Arsenal, where most of his appearances have been at left-back behind preferred options in the likes of Jurrien Timber and Oleksandr Zinchenko.
However, his route to regular first-team football was made more difficult in the summer when the Gunners signed Italian international Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna for a fee of £42m. The former Bologna man can play both at centre-back and full-backm which has made it much more difficult for Kiwior to get into Mikel Arteta’s team.
Furthermore, Calafiori’s performances have been impressive since joining in the summer transfer window, however, he did recently suffer an injury which handed Kiwior more game time, albeit coming on from the substitutes bench.
