The impressive Premier League table since Mikel Arteta joined Arsenal, how Gunners rank v Liverpool & Man City
Arsenal have turned themselves into Premier League title challengers under Mikel Arteta
Arsenal look set to come up short in the Premier League title race once again this season but Mikel Arteta has vowed to continue the fight until the end.

The Gunners drew 1-1 at Everton last weekend on their final visit to Goodison Park and were left to rue those dropped points as London rivals Fulham handed Liverpool a 3-2 defeat at Craven Cottage on Sunday afternoon. Arsenal’s hopes of winning the Champions League remain well on track after a stunning 3-0 win over Real Madrid on Tuesday night.
Since being appointed Arsenal manager in December 2019, Arteta has lifted silverware in the shape of the FA Cup. The Gunners became genuine title contenders for the first time during the 2022-23 season as they challenged Manchester City but ultimately fell short. Last season they took the battle to the final day but were dealt more heartbreak.
They look set to finish second again, barring any major slip-ups from current leaders Liverpool.
Mikel Arteta reflects on Arsenal managerial career so far
Back in December, Arteta sat down with the Arsenal club website to reflect on his five years at the helm in North London. Last campaign saw the club pick up their most Premier League wins, 28, while scoring their most goals in a single Premier League season with 91. He has racked up the seventh-most wins of any Arsenal manager in the club history since his appointment.
He said to the Arsenal club website in late 2024 of his time at the club so far: “It was a dream. It became reality and it’s been five years since then. A lot has changed around myself, about my personal life and around the club and where the club stands today. If I had to overview it, a lot of it would be very positive and within that journey some very difficult moments as well that I think were necessary to be where we are today.”
Asked on the mood of the club when he arrived, he said: “There was that fraction and distance, a lack of belief and a lot of negativity. So many people have contributed to turn it around in a really powerful way, bring joy and belief back to the club, competing at the highest level again. Players feeling happy to be where they are, happy to come to our football club. It’s a joy to share these moments with our people. The stadium is completely transformed, so there are a lot of positives to take.”
Tuesday’s win over Real Madrid certainly represented a significant step forward for the Gunners, who showed they can dine with the very elite of Europe.
