A fuming Piers Morgan took some time out of his Thursday morning for some trademark ranting and raving online as news of a Man City bid for Declan Rice broke.

Arsenal looked to be favourites to land the English international's signature but reports that West Ham had demanded a lofty £100 million to let their star player go.

Morgan, who is an outspoken Gunners fan, had been sharing his love for Declan Rice and hopes that Arsenal could land the marquee signing online. Today he was left spitting feathers amidst reports that Pep Guardiola may push Mikel Arteta out the way and bring the 24-year-old to the Etihad Stadium.

Piers Morgan took to Twitter and wrote: "I’m not sure my spleen will survive City wrestling Rice away from us because we once again preferred pointless penny-pinching to getting crucial business done."

It comes less than 24 hours after the former Britain's Got Talent star begged Arsenal to "stop mucking about" as he compared the Rice saga to that of the club being beaten by Chelsea to buy Mykhailo Mudryk.

Where Rice will play his football next season remains the talking topic of the football world with pundit Danny Murphy admitting that the midfielder may have to go on strike to force a move and end the drawn-out debacle.

He told talkSPORT: "As of now Man City aren’t in – my understanding is they have not committed yet and I’ve heard nothing about Bayern Munich – so Arsenal don’t have to rush. And it may get to a point where Declan has got a decision to make – has he got the courage to kick up to get out if he needs to?

"I know he’s not that type of lad but sometimes you have to be Craig Bellamy, Joey Barton – you’ve got to look after yourself. I only had it once in my career, but you have to be able to follow through.

"It means you have to make it perfectly clear, ‘If you keep me here I won’t be playing’, and even if you don’t really believe it long-term, you have to do it and make them believe. Is it a professional thing to do? It doesn’t matter. You’ve got to look after yourself."
