Former Huddersfield Town boss Neil Warnock has had his say on Arsenal’s transfer activity and believes it is only a matter of time before they move for a highly rated Premier League striker.

Warnock, who is famous for his run-ins with Arsene Wenger during his tenure as Sheffield United boss, appeared on this morning’s TalkSport and shared his belief that Arsenal will make a bid for Ivan Toney in the coming weeks.

The 74-year-old joined Alan Brazil on the talk show to discuss Arsenal’s transfer activity.  During the conversation Brazil criticised Arteta for the signing of David Raya and claimed the focus should have been the central forward position.

He added that Arteta should have moved for Toney in the summer and used his time out as a chance to bed him into the squad so that he is ready to make his mark in January.

Warnock echoed Brazil’s comments but added that a move would be more sensible in the winter window.

He said: ““I think he is saving his money really. I think he is going to try and get Toney in January. Toney would fit the bill.”

“I think it’s hard to tell the people above you at the club that you are going to spend £100 million but he can’t play for five or six months.

“It’s hard to justify that. You have to say let him come back and see if he’s fit and then we will spend that money. I can understand that.”

The likes of Roy Keane and Ian Wright have previously claimed that a prolific striker would be the key to helping Arsenal reclaim the Premier League title.

Toney was exactly that last season with 20 goals from 33 appearances for Brentford and he makes his official return to the pitch on 17 January after his betting related suspension.

A price tag of around £70m is mentioned by TBR, this a sizable sum, but one that may now represent value for Arsenal.

Toney has previously spoken of his desire to represent England at a major tournament during an appearance on the Diary of a Ceo podcast, while he added that Arsenal are a club that he has always admired throughout his life.

Arsenal’s current attacking options are Gabriel Jesus, Eddie Nketiah and Kai Havertz, but could we see further additions in the winter window?
