National media brand Arsenal man 'almost unbeatable' after comfortable international win
France pulled off a rather comfortable win on Friday night to edge closer to the World Cup.
One of Arsena’s players enjoyed a rather comfortable Friday evening of internationa action. William Saliba played a full 90 minutes in France’s 3-0 win over Azerbaijan in a World Cup qualifier, strengthening their grip at the top of the table.

France are five points clear of Ukraine in second and six ahead of Iceland in third with three games remaining, one against each off the teams in the group.
It looks as though France fans can already start booking their flights for the World Cup, albeit figuratively speaking given they could be playing anywhere from New York to Vancouver, Miami to Mexico City, such is the vast expanse of next summer’s World Cup.
Saliba enjoyed a comfortable evening for France at centre-back, playong alongside Dayot Upamecano, who got one of the best reviews of the evening. Saliba also got a good review, with L’Equipe reasoning: “Less brilliant defensively than Upamecano, but the connection between the two remains as interesting as ever, making them an almost unbeatable pair for the moment. The Arsenal player has also been very good at handling opposing crosses.”
Deschamps pleased with professionalism
Speaking after the game, France boss Didier Deschamps said of his side’s performance: “It was always going to be a complicated match. We didn't have quick movement of the ball, they were fresh and defended in a low block.
"The only times we put them in trouble were when we used our speed. It was a little too pedestrian in the first half. In these matches, we have to get at them from the start, but it's one more victory, which makes nine points."
Florian Thauvin added after getting on the scoresheet: "It's incredible! It's a dream, I'm having a bit of trouble coming back to earth! It's a great satisfaction, a source of pride. Playing for France is something that is close to my heart."
France face Iceland away from home on Monday in their next qualifier.
