'One of the weakest players on the field' - Arsenal star slaughtered by media after 1/5 display in defeat
One of Arsenal’s players disappointed in a defeat for his nation on Friday.
Arsenal star Viktor Gyokeres has been slammed by national media in Sweden after a defeat for the nation. Sweden lost 2-0 to Switzerland in a result that leaves their World Cup hopes in tatters halfway through the qualifying campaign.

The result leaves Sweden bottom of the group, eight points behind Switzerland and three points behind Kosovo. They can still get a play-off spot, but manager Jon Dahl Tomasson is now under serious pressure amid growing unhappiness from fans.
Gyokeres played a full 90 minutes and was slammed for his performance by Swedish media outlet Expressen. He was given a one out of five with report reading: “Thundered away from deep – from minute one! Viktor Gyökeres looked lively. Then he got tired. And heavy. The number of errors increased with it. And overall, it can only be said that Gyökeres was one of the absolute weakest players on the field.”
Pressure building for Sweden
The Swedish team are now coming under intense pressure, failing to meet expectation despite their obvious talent with players like Gyokeres, Alexander Isak, Anthony Elanga dn others.
Some Swedish fans brought a banner to the game that read: “Resign, JDT” along with some expletatives. After the game, the manager said: “Football is about emotions. When you get bad results, it's black or white. It's part of football. It's something we need to deal with, both me and the players. I don't get involved. The supporters have the right to have feelings.”
He added: “We got a slap in the face here, but we believe in what we're doing. We would have loved to make Sweden proud by fighting for first place. Now that's changed.”
Sweden goalkeeper Viktor Johansson defended his boss, telling ViaPlay: “The supporters have every right to be disappointed. That they boo and hang banners against Jon… I can't influence that. My confidence in Jon is one hundred percent. I believe in the idea, our way of playing. Now we have one point in three games and we have to win. We are committed to doing it already on Monday. This is a big disappointment.”
