Arsenal have not had the strongest starts to a new year as they continue to search for their first win since Boxing day.

The Gunners are also about to endure their sixth year out of the UEFA Champions League if they do not land a top four finish this season and a particularly quiet January transfer window will not help their bid.

Mikel Arteta’s men have been out of action since 23 January due to postponed matches and will be keen to regain some confidence and strength when they head to Molineux and play Wolverhampton Wanderers on Thursday 10 February 2022.

Arsenal will look forward to the return of Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey who are back from their respective bans.

With their return, the Gunners will have no other players out for suspension but will have to endure the absence of three players who are still suffering injuries.

Here is the latest on Arsenal’s injury latest and their expected returns.

Takehiro Tomiyasu

Over the past few weeks, the Japanese international Tomiyasu has been suffering from a persistent calf injury.

The issue first appeared during Arsenal’s 4-1 win over Leeds United in December and while he attempted to play through the pain in Arsenal’s 2-0 defeat to Liverpool, the right-back has now been forced to rest up.

Speaking to the club, Arteta said: “Tomi had an injury and we didn’t have anybody to play in that position against Liverpool.

Mohamed Elneny

The Egyptian midfielder will have only just returned from the Africa Cup of Nations where he was awarded a runners-up medal.

Due to the mental and physical strain a competition such as AFCON has on players, Arteta will be likely to omit Elneny from his squad against Wolves in order for the Egyptian to fully recover.

Elneny was justifiable emotional after losing to Senegal in the AFCON final. The midfielder played all 120 minutes of a game which was ultimately won in a penalty shootout with Liverpool star Sadio Mane securing the deciding goal.

As a result, Elneny may be rested from Arsenal’s next match in order to give both his body and mental state time to relax and reset.

Expected return date: Saturday 19 February 2022

Arsenal’s next match is an away fixture against Wolves on Thursday 10 February 2022 at 7.45pm GMT.
