Mikel Arteta issues fresh injury update as four Arsenal players doubtful for Manchester United with two out

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal will look to make it four wins in a row in all competitions as they welcome Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United to the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night. It Is the the first time the historic Premier League rivals will face each other since Erik ten Hag was sacked by United earlier this season.
The Gunners head into the game on the back of a 5-2 win against West Ham United over the weekend where all seven goals came in the first half. However, during the game, Gabriel and Riccardo Calafiori were both taken out of the match after picking up knocks. Furthermore, both Mikel Merino and Thomas Partey missed the game after they had suffered injuries and all four players are currently being assessed ahead of the Gunners’ game against United on Wednesday night.

Hide AdIn his pre-match press conference Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta issued an update on the four as he hopes they can return for the game at the Emirates. He said: “We’re going to have a meeting this afternoon,” he said.
“We have done a training session (this morning), we have monitored and kept a few away from certain activities and after that meeting, we will decide if everyone is fit and available and who will start.” All four are back in training, but the Gunners’ boss was still unsure on if they will be fresh and ready for Wednesday night.
Arsenal duo ruled out of Manchester United clash
Merino, Partey, Calafiori and Gabriel could play against United on Wednesday night, but two Arsenal players have been ruled out ahead of kick off with more serious injury issues.
Defender Ben White underwent surgery on his knee after the Gunners decided to be cautious with the 27-year-old. Mikel Arteta said after the decision was made: “Ben is going to be out for months. We had to make a decision in the last few weeks, unfortunately. It got to a point where we had to protect the player, and we decided to do the surgery.”

Hide AdMeanwhile, defender Takehiro Tomiyasu also remains unavailable to play as he suffered a setback to a knee injury that he sustained during the summer whilst on international duty with Japan. He will likely remain out for several weeks. Arteta said: “We're going to give him the best opportunity to try and unlock something, but I think we need to be patient.”
