'One more year' - Mikel Arteta told he is now on the clock to deliver Arsenal title success

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta could be on the clock according to a former Gunner.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta could be on the clock if he can’t deliver a Premier League title this season, according to a former Gunner. It has been a frustrating couple of years for Arsenal, who have fallen just short of Manchester City in their last two seasons.

Arteta has managed significant improvement in charge of the Gunners, helped by the fact the club have shown serious patience, but there are concerns the team has reached its ceiling under the Spaniard.

With Arsenal having fallen short in the last two seasons, combined with the fact they look as though they will fall short of Liverpool this time around - albeit there is plenty of time remaining in the season - there will be questions come the end of the season if Arteta still hasn’t delivered a title. That is especially the case due to the level of investment the Gunners have made over recent years, with more than £300million spent in the last two summers alone.

According to former Arsenal defender William Gallas, Arteta may be running out of time, but he does believe the Spaniard will get another year. “Arteta’s had almost five years at Arsenal,” he told Prime Casino. “I don't want to wait for another five years (before Arsenal are the Premier League champions). Five years for the manager to be in charge is really good. It's really good because we know in football after maybe one year, the club can sack you. That’s why I think after this season, if he doesn't win the Premier League, he doesn't win anything, I think he will have maybe one more year.”

Tierney situation

Away from any Arteta pressure, Arsenal will allow Kieran Tierney to leave for Celtic for free at the end of the season, but they have decided to keep him until then, blocking any permanent deal in January.

Another former Gunner in Bacary Sagna had his say on that situation, telling greatoffshoresportsbooks.com: “He’s a good player. He was playing for Celtic from a young age. He's an experienced player, and of course you want to be able to have a competitive team, so keeping him in the squad makes sense.

“The fact that Arsenal didn't let him go means they believe in him. Arsenal have players performing well at the minute in Tierney’s position, so it's hard to take them out. Timber is one of them, Calafiori is one of them. They're performing well, so the competition is there and it's difficult for him to get some game time, but you never know, he could be relied upon at a crucial moment in the season. Anything can happen.

“I hope Arsenal are going to have no injuries, but given the amount they have suffered this season, it makes sense to keep a player like Tierney in the squad. They need to anticipate a scenario where he may be required to play for one game or two games. Personally, I like the player, I like his ability to defend, I like the way he attacks. He's a good player and I think Mikel is trying to keep a group of players that are able to compete until the end of the season.
