Man City dealt injury blow to £55.5m star amid fierce title battle with Arsenal and Liverpool

Arsenal will go top of the Premier League this weekend if they beat Brentford and their title rivals draw in their blockbuster clash.

Arsenal are heading into a mammoth weekend as they have a potential golden opportunity to go top of the Premier League table. The Gunners will first need to claim a win over Brentford on Saturday and then all eyes will be on the blockbuster clash between Liverpool and Manchester City.

A draw between the two will be the perfect result for Arsenal, as it will allow them to leapfrog from third into first place, as they would go ahead of Liverpool on goal difference. Mikel Arteta's side are currently just two points off the top spot and will not be able to catch their rivals unless they drop points — this weekend is the perfect opportunity for that to happen.

Liverpool have been hampered with injuries this season and are currently without first choice goalkeeper Alisson, as well as Trent Alexander-Arnold and Diogo Jota, while Mohamed Salah also remains a doubt. The Reds have done well in the absence of key players but with many players expected to be out for a lengthy amount of time, Arsenal will be hoping this causes some slip-ups.

City have revealed their own injury concerns this week as Jérémy Doku is now a doubt ahead of their Champions League clash with Copenhagen. He is said to be struggling with 'mild discomfort' and missed Tuesday's training session, which not only casts doubt on his midweek availability but whether he will be fit to face Liverpool on Sunday.

Doku, who signed for City last summer for £55.5 million, has already missed five Premier League fixtures due to a muscle injury this season. The versatile 21-year-old has contributed five goals and six assists across all competitions so far and has featured in all but one of City's fixtures where he has been fit to compete.

With Jack Grealish also injured, this blow to Doku means both of Pep Guardiola's natural left-wingers are out. The Spaniard can shift his line-up to factor in their absences but the last time both players were unavailable, City lost 1-0 to Aston Villa.

Arsenal will be keeping a close eye on both Liverpool and City's fitness levels as they prepare to lock horns this weekend, with the pressure on for both to come away with maximum points.
