The former Premier League star made a bold prediction for the Premier League title race.

Former Manchester City and Liverpool goalkeeper David James is adamant the Premier League title chase is a 'two horse race' despite impressive Arsenal form of late.

Mikel Arteta's side have scored 11 goals in their last two league outings, beating Burnley 5-0 and West Ham 6-0 on the road, and have won all five outings in the competition in 2024. The Gunners sit third in the league, just two points off leaders Liverpool, as the club looks to mount a push for the title.

Despite Arsenal's prowess in front of goal, footballer turned pundit James questioned the London side's title credentials and branded their win over Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool earlier this month as 'farcical'.

James told GGRecon: “Even though Arsenal are banging in goals for fun at the moment, aside from Liverpool. I don’t believe they’ve beaten anyone else of substance yet and when they beat Liverpool earlier in the month, I believe it was a foul on Virgil van Dijk for the second goal and the red card for Ibrahima Konaté made that game a bit farcical in the end. I believe it’s a two-horse race between Liverpool and Manchester City, with Arsenal making a bit of noise on the outside.

“What’s fortunate for Liverpool at the moment, and I say this even though it looks as if Diogo Jota has suffered a serious injury, is that Mo Salah has come back to scoring ways for Liverpool upon his return from AFCON and his injury and Jota was scoring the goals that kept their title bid on track. Providing that Mo doesn’t get injured again, then I believe Liverpool can suffer that sort of loss because every club involved in the title race is going to have injuries along the way.”

James, who never won a Premier League title but does hold an FA Cup and League Cup winners medal along with a League One runners-up medal, made 277 appearances for Liverpool and 100 appearances for Manchester City during his 26-year professional playing career.

Arsenal face Porto in the Champions League on Wednesday night before welcoming Newcastle United to the Emirates Stadium on Saturday in the Premier League.
