Chelsea turn down Arsenal’s bid for Havertz

Arsenal have been closing in on a deal for Chelsea’s Kai Havertz but they have reportedly had their opening bid rejected by their London rivals, according to The Telegraph. The Blues have slapped a £70 million price tag on the German star but they are aware they may not be able to stick to their valuation, as they are in need of funds this summer.

Havertz joined Chelsea in 2020 for £75m from Bayer Leverkusen as part of mega spending spree. He joined the likes of Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech and Ben Chilwell but now looks set to depart with just two years left on his current deal.

Arsenal will need to return with a second offer if they want to bring Havertz to the Emirates but Chelsea’s financial situation may be in their favour and they could land him for less than the £70m asking price.

Arsenal have ‘taken the lead’ to sign £65m forward

As well as their desire to pad out their midfield, Arsenal are also on the market for a new forward option and have reportedly ‘taken the lead’ in the race for Bayer Leverkusen’s Moussa Diaby. According to L’Equipe (via Sport Witness), the Gunners are in pole position to sign the winger, ahead of Premier League rivals Newcastle United.

Diaby has attracted a lot of attention this summer after contributing 14 goals and 11 assists across all competitions this last season. During the 2021/22 campaign, he notched 31 goal contributions, and 25 the season before that. He is an extremely versatile player who can operate on either wing, as well as up front and even in midfield.
