Midfielder eyed

Arsenal are making ‘progress’ in their pursuit of Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia as they look to throw the youngster a top flight lifeline after the Saints’ relegation to the Championship, as per the Independent. The report suggests the 19-year-old is a man in-demand this summer with Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United also credited with an interest.

He was on the books at Manchester City from 2020 to last year after moving to the Etihad Stadium from Anderlecht but played once twice for the first-team under Pep Guardiola before being allowed to depart. The Belgium international impressed at St Mary’s in the last campaign despite their team’s poor performances.

Goalkeeper speaks out

Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno has no regrets about leaving Arsenal. He cut ties with the Gunners in August 2022 after four years and has become a key player at Craven Cottage.

The Germany international, who started his career in native country with spells at Stuttgart and Bayer Leverkusen, has said, as per SportBild: “I quickly found my rhythm again, gained confidence and played well. The way we play is intense. I like the gameplay.I haven’t regretted for a second that I stayed in England and went to Fulham. Fulham used to go to up and down. Now we want to establish ourselves properly [in the Premier League].”
