Jorginho is now an Arsenal player as the Gunners put together their Premier League title bid.

It has been a superb season so far for the Gunners, but they still have around half of a season to play, and there are areas where they need to strengthen, with central midfield being one of them. Mohamed Elneny is struggling with injury, leaving little depth in the middle, and Moises Caicedo is looking particularly difficult to obtain.

Chelsea’s Jorginho seems to be Edu and Mikel Arteta’s best answer, and with that in mind, we have rounded up all the details of the deal.

Fee agreed

On deadline day, Arsenal and Chelsea agreed the £12million fee required for Jorginho to move from West London to North of the capital.

The 31-year-old is out of contract in the summer, and Chelsea faced losing the Italy international for nothing in the summer. A £12million deal suits Arsenal, who spent a huge amount to improve in the summer, while Chelsea can offset a very small proportion of their spending, while also reducing their ever-growing wage bill.

The deal structure is said to be broken down to £10million upfront and a fuurther £2million in add-ons.

Contract duration

According to Fabrizio Romano, Jorginho will join Arsenal on a deal until the end of June in 2024, with the deal totalling 18 months, but there is a chance the deal will be extended.

The 31-year-old will have an option in his contract for the Gunners to extend the deal by a further year if they decide to.

What has Arteta said?

Arteta has told the club website: “Jorginho is a midfield player with intelligence, deep leadership skills and a huge amount of Premier League and international experience. Jorginho has won in his career, but he still has the hunger and huge willingness to contribute here.

“We are so pleased to sign Jorginho and welcome him and his family to the club.”
