Arsenal have reportedly turned to Orlando City winger Facundo Torres as they eye potential attacking reinforcements. The Gunners need more depth in their squad as they chase down the title.

Goal claim Mikel Arteta’s side are in ‘talks’ with the Uruguay international over a possible switch to the Premier League before the end of the transfer window. The 22-year-old scored nine goals in 33 games in the 2022 MLS season.

Torres has revealed his desire to move over to Europe and has told 90min: “I would love to play in Europe. It’s a dream I’ve had since I was a kid.

“At the moment I am focused on Orlando City. But La Liga or Premier League would be my targets, and that’s where the rumours are coming from. But yeah, I would absolutely love that.”

Orlando only signed him 12 months ago and speaking just after landing his signature, their chairman Mark Wilf said: “He is an exciting player with a bright future. We will continue to work with our technical team to bolster the roster and build a championship-caliber team for our Club and community.”

Their General Manager Luiz Muzzi also added: “Facundo is a young player with a lot of potential and upside, and he is just beginning to make waves on the international stage. The danger that he creates on attack will be a real asset on the offensive end and we’re excited for him to step on the field in purple.”

Arsenal need to be smart with their recruitment over the next couple of weeks and won’t want to be pressured into any deals. Torres is a player who has potential to get better in the future but it may take him a while to adapt to life in England.

Miguel Almiron is a good example of someone who made a similar switch over from America when he joined Newcastle United from Atlanta United. It took him about a year before he started to stamp his mark.
