Gabriel Jesus has revealed he plans to join Brazilian side Palmeiras - but not until he becomes a Champions League winner at Arsenal.

The forward has endured an underwhelming campaign at the Emirates. Eight goals across all competitions is a modest return, with Jesus suffering several niggling setbacks throughout the season.

He has not featured since January but was an unused substitute during the 4-1 win over Newcastle United. There are doubts about whether Jesus - or Eddie Nketiah - have the quality to propel Arsenal to unprecedented heights.

Talk about signing a new striker has dominated the transfer agenda in North London all season. Reports have linked the Gunners with moves for Ivan Toney, Viktor Gyokeres and Victor Osimhen but, for now, they must persist with Nketiah and Jesus.

The latter has suggested he may already be planning his exit in the coming years. At 26, Jesus is at his peak but hopes to return home - rejoining the club he left to achieve his Premier League dream.

However, that is not until the striker has won the Champions League with Arsenal. Jesus admitted he “loves” the Gunners while outlining the rest of his career.

“Arsenal is a giant that was sleeping that woke up,” he told Brazilian outlet Cartoloucos. “I wasn’t so aware before I arrived here of how huge this club is. I’m in love with Arsenal.

“I’m more mature now. I’m established and 100 per cent focused on my football. I still have three dreams: to win the World Cup, the Champions League and then the Libertadores with Palmeiras.”
