Arsenal are now just days away from returning to competitive action with the World Cup now completed.

Argentina defeated William Saliba’s France in dramatic fashion on Sunday afternoon, and attention now turns back to club football, with Arsenal returning on Boxing Day to face West Ham United. The Gunners enjoyed a superb start to the season, and they will be hoping to hit the ground running following the extended break.

Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta and Edu will already have half an eye on the January transfer window, especially after losing Gabriel Jesus to injury, and here we round up all the latest transfer news and rumours surrounding the Emirates Stadium.

Contract talks with trio

Arsenal are set to open contract talks with three of their brightest stars in the coming weeks.

According to CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs, the Gunners will restart talks with Bukayo Saka, William Saliba and Gabriel Martinelli shortly following the trio’s return from the World Cup. Saliba is said to be the ‘most complicated’ of the three due to being linked with a move away from Arsenal in recent times.

Arsenal will be desperate to keep all three given they have all been instrumental in the fine start to the season.

Cunha possibility

Arsenal could yet be involved in the race to sign Atletico Madrid star Matheus Cunha, who has been offered to Premier League clubs in recent times. That’s according to Dean Jones, who says the Gunners can’t be ruled out following the injury suffered by Jesus.

“If you’re Arsenal and looking to make the right decisions that define a title challenge, nothing can be dismissed or given up on lightly. That’s why they’ll have their eye on situations like this one,” he told Give Me Sport.

“They’re biding their time is how I would read it. They’re waiting to see if there’s an opportunity here.”
