Arsenal 'step up' transfer talks as Crystal Palace owner makes sacking decision

European action will dominate this week, with the rest of the Premier League clubs having to wait until the weekend to get back to action. The transfer deadline is also fast-approaching, with clubs needing to beat Monday night’s clock to get deals over the line.

Nypan lead

Arsenal are said to be leading the race to sign Norwegian talent Sverre Nypan this month. The Rosenborg midfielder has been tipped as a natural Martin Odegaard replacement in the long-term, still only 18 years of age.

The Independent report that talks have ramped up over the last few days, and progress has reportedly been made, with Rosenborg willing to strike a deal. A number of clubs have been linked, but the Gunners are leading the race.

Textor makes sacking decision

Crystal Palace boss John Textor has decided to sack the manager of his other club, Olympique Lyon. Pierre Sage has been sacked, with Lyon currently sixth in the table, while they are fifth in the Europa League and sitting in the Round of 16 spots with one game to go.

Textor will now reportedly lead the search for a new boss himself, and former Lille and AC Milan boss Paulo Fonseca is said to be among the leading candidates for the role.

Salah replacement

Jamie Carragher has suggested Bryan Mbuemo as a possible replacement for Mo Salah should the Egyptian fail to agree a new contract and move on. The pundit told The Mirror: "You see them do well at those clubs then you think can they do a job for our clubs? They're ahead of the game for bringing them in, the metrics and he's certainly one of them. I think of my old club with the situation regarding Mohamed Salah, a left-footed player on the right side, who can fit the bill?

"He [Mbeumo] is someone whose name that always crops up because of his ability and the club he is at. The things they look at are probably similar to Liverpool. (I'm a) Huge fan of his, huge problem and he caused Liverpool huge problems last weekend."
