Arsenal vs Tottenham early injury news as 13 ruled out and 3 doubts
An early look at the injury news surrounding Arsenal and Tottenham ahead of the North London derby.
Arsenal and Tottenham will now turn their attention to Wednesday night’s North London derby in the Premier League. Both clubs were in FA Cup action on Sunday, achieving mixed results.
The Gunners were defeated on penalties by Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium, while Tottenham needed extra time to defeat non-league Tamworth, scoring three times in the extended period. Here we take a look at the early injury news surrounding both teams as derby day closes in.
Gugliemo Vicario - Out
Vicario won’t return until late February, with Ange Postecoglou saying at the start of the month: “He's on schedule. When it's a fracture, there's a set schedule for him being in a boot, how much weight bearing he can do, and then getting clearances along the way. So, he's still on the same timeline of the end of February.”
Destiny Udogie - Out
Postecoglou said at the same time: “Destiny, with his hamstring, looks around the six-week mark.”
Rodrigo Bentancur - Out
Bentancur suffered a concussion and won’t likely return for a couple of weeks as he progresses through the concussion protocol. Postecoglou said: “Good news. He was in hospital and did all the tests to make sure everything is OK. All good. He's back home, and he's fine. He is feeling good... Thankfully, it looks like a concussion and nothing more than it.”
Ben Davies - Out
Davies’ return from a hamstring issue won’t come yet. Postecoglou said: “Ben (Davies), Micky (van de Ven) and Romero around the same time, they're all slated to return at the back end of January.”
Micky van de Ven - Out
Van de Ven comes under the above update.
Cristian Romero - Out
Also possessing a hamstring issue, Romero is also out until later in the month.
Richarlison - Out
This one will come too soon for Richarlison, but he is getting closer to a return, back in training.
Fraser Forster - Doubt
Forster has been battling illness but he could return to contention here.
Wilson Odobert - Out
Odobert is out long term after undergoing surgery on his hamstring.
Gabriel Jesus - Out
Jesus had to be stretchered off against Manchester United. He will be absent here.
Riccardo Calafiori - Doubt
Calafiori missed the United game with a fresh injury and will be a doubt for this one given the quick turnaround.
Jorginho - Doubt
Jorginho hobbled off during extra time of the United game and will be a doubt as a minimum.
Bukayo Saka - Out
Arteta said of Saka in late December: “He had a procedure. Everything went well. But unfortunately, he will be out for many, many weeks. I think it will be more than two months. I don't know exactly how much longer.”
Ben White - Out
White remains out with a knee injury. Arteta said in early January: “Ben is still a few weeks away.”
Ethan Nwaneri - Out
Arteta has said: “Unfortunately, he’s picked up a [muscular] injury and is going to be out for a few weeks.”
Takehiro Tomiyasu - Out
Tomiyasu is still out with his knee injury but he is close to returning. Arteta has said: “Tomi has done some stuff on the pitch, but we have to see. It has been a long-term injury, and we have to see how quick he progresses and how he reacts.”
